Update Your Phone Software

You can update your phone's software using the Update ZTE Software option.

Before Updating Your Phone

Updating your phone may result in a loss of saved data depending on the condition of your phone (malfunctioning, damaged, water seepage, etc.). You must back up all critical information before updating your phone firmware.

Back Up All Data Prior to Update

To back up your Gmail information:

  1. From home, tap Apps all apps icon > Settings settings app icon > Accounts > Google.
  2. Tap your Google Account to open the Sync screen.
  • If the Auto-sync data option is on, turn on the items you want to keep in sync.
  • If the Auto-sync data option is off, tap the items you want to synchronize to back up related data.

To back up your Exchange mail information:

  1. From home, tap Apps all apps icon > Settings settings app icon > Accounts > Exchange.
  2. Tap your Exchange account to open the Sync screen.
  • If the Auto-sync data option is on, turn on the items you want to keep in sync.
  • If the Auto-sync data option is off, tap the items you want to synchronize to back up related data.

To back up stored text messages:

  1. From home, tap Apps all apps icon > Messaging messenger app icon.
  2. Select the text message from the list to view the message thread.
  3. Touch and hold a text message from the string. The Message options context menu appears.

Note: You can back up stored text messages by forwarding them to your own phone number. Open the messages after you have updated your firmware.

  1. Tap Forward forward email icon.
  2. Tap New message and enter your phone number in the "To" field.
  3. Tap Send to <your number> and tap next icon.
  4. Tap Send send message icon.

To restore your Google apps following the update:

  1. From home, tap Apps all apps icon > Play Store play store app icon.
  2. Tap Menu gmail options icon > My apps & games > All tab.
  3. Scroll through the list of previously downloaded Google apps and choose those you wish to reinstall.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions.

Note: Your Google app purchases are reloaded remotely and can be re-installed after the update is applied.

As an added precaution, to preserve any data on your SD card, please unmount it from your phone prior to starting the update process. From home, tap Apps all apps icon > Settings settings app icon > Storage > Unmount unmount sd card icon.

If you are using the SD card as internal storage, please copy all your personal files to your computer. See Transfer Files between Your Phone and a Computer.

Update Your Phone’s Software

Once you have backed up all your data, use the Update ZTE Software option to update your phone’s software.

  1. From home, tap Apps all apps icon > Settings settings app icon > System updates.
  2. Tap Update ZTE Software.

  • Your phone automatically downloads and installs any available updates. You may be required to power your phone off and back on to complete the software upgrade.

Alternatively, you can access system updates through the notification panel.

  1. Locate the System Update Available icon (system update notification icon) in notifications.
  2. Pull down the status bar.
  3. Tap system update notification icon to open the update screen.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to restart and install the update.

Confirm Your Current Phone Firmware

  1. From home, tap Apps all apps icon > Settings settings app icon > About phone.
  2. Locate the Build number read-only field.
